A Garden of Story, Lea Bucknell: Forest City Garden Project

A different kind of community garden: bringing together spaces and stories through people and plants

The McIntosh Gallery, in collaboration with the Art Exchange, is pleased to present Lea Bucknell: Forest City Garden Project. As the McIntosh's 2011 Artist in the Community, Bucknell combines her interests in geography and art through this unique project.

Through a series of interviews and exchanges Bucknell has been collecting plants and stories from people throughout London. These are currently on display in recycled wood planters installed in an old store in historic Wortley Village.

Lea Bucknell: Forest City Garden Project is open from Wednesday to Saturday 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M until July 1st, 2011. (or by appointment) at 156 Wortley Road.

Health Professionals Create Living Stories at IJCAIP Workshop

On Saturday June 4 at The Windermere Manor (UWO) London, Ontario, health professionals, nurses, researchers, educators, therapists and community workers attended the IJCAIP Spring day workshop, “Creating and Living Stories for Hope and Change” facilitated by IJCAIP Publisher and Executive Editor Cheryl McLean.

“I work with professionals from many disciplines to take individuals through a developmental process that uses creative arts methods to help participants discover, access and express their stories and narratives. In this way they each have an embodied experience with the arts while learning skills which can be applied in practice and for change. Using movement, drama methods, writing/narrative, readings and group performance this workshop offers participants an opportunity to connect with one another within a creative “community” process while actively sharing their stories for witness.”

The workshop also featured information about topical research in the field from the CAIP Research Series, “Creative Arts in Interdisciplinary Practice, Inquiries for Hope and Change” and “Creative Arts in Research for Community and Cultural Change”, Detselig Temeron Press.

One researcher commented on her experience at the "Creating and Living Stories for Hope and Change" workshop,

“Our time together was so brief and yet so rewarding. Thank you for your acceptance and openness to new experiences. My workshop experience was truly transformational. I am convinced that I am on the right path in terms of my research work - I knew that qualitative is definitely the appropriate methodology and exploring creative arts definitely struck a chord with me.”
